Red Epic Camera

Connecting Audio: The Red Epic has two microphone level or line level 3.5mm mini-jack inputs. If you want four channels, you need to buy the add-on PRO I/O Module. The menu setting is very straight forward. You can change the level of the input and the headphone output however you need to get the wiring right in your cables in order to hear sound in the first place.
Here is an example of correct wiring from the Hosa XVS102F cable. Feed a balanced mic-level signal into the XLR end and you’ll get good audio to your Epic/Scarley out of the TRS (3.5mm mini jack) end. Pins 1, 2 and 3 are are wired straight through to the proper places. A cable following these rules will work on an Epic/Scarlet camera. Information courtesy of David Fuller

Fan Noise: you can adjust the fan level in the menu settings. The latest firmware brings it down to 35%. If the camera gets hot, it may suddenly ramp up the fan in the middle of a long take (over 10 minutes) JW Sound Forum.
